In one of my posts, I have mentioned that how you can lock a folder without any software. Its time to move one step ahead, "Lock any drive on your computer". The reason behind locking down the whole drive for example 'D' is that sometimes a folder is not enough to keep your stuff safe from undesired people. What we can do is, we can put all our valuable stuff in a single drive and then restrict the access to it.
A few days back I was searching for the same thing. People say that you should use "bitlocker", a function built into Windows for this purpose. So I gave it a try. After going through the settings, I thought that it would lock down the drive with a password. Good Enough, but when I clicked on OK, it started to encrypt my required drive. I was like "WHAT THE HELL".
I just wanted something that could password protect the drive, but for that I have to wait almost 150 minutes :( This encryption depends on the size of the disk and items in the drive. More stuff you have, more you have to wait.
So I figured out another alternative to this issue that can protect your data from newbies or undesired people BUT it takes no time to do so. So if you think your time is precious then follow my lead.
Alright! Lets Begin.
>> Download this software. Its only 23kb and portable so no harm will be done :)
>> Unzip the program and run it. You will see the main window.

>> Select a drive that you want to lock and place a check mark on it.
>> Click on "Apply".
>> Your selected drive will be locked and won't be visible
>> Don't panic, your data will remain safe. Its just that no one can access your locked drive now, no matter they use the address bar at the top or folder hierarchy on the left or from any shortcuts. Whenever they do so a message will appear. Something like this.
>> You can unlock the drive with the same method. Simply remove the check mark that you have placed.
>> Here comes the problem. Anyone can unlock the drive if they see the program or somehow have access to it. So we have to take care of it as well.
>> Create a folder lock with the method mentioned here. Place this program into that folder and lock it with your desired password. So now nobody but you can use this program.
And this is how you can lock any drive with password without any waste of time.

If the drive becomes invisible then how to unlock it when wanna access?
ReplyDeleteOpen the drive locker again, and simply uncheck the the drive you want to use. Click on apply and you are done
