Everybody loves a clean desktop and quick access to things. But these two things are like mutually exclusive. You have to forgo the benefits of other no matter what you choose. All you are left with is using third party applications like Object Dock or Fences to achieve both these goals. In Windows, you can deal with this issue without any software. This feature is been there for ages but we haven't noticed it. But today I will tell you about using this forgotten solution.
Alright! Lets Begin.
>> First of all take a look at your desktop, it is full of icons. (you know that this cant be my desktop)
>> Your first task it to divide these icons in categories. Like Office icons on one side, browsers on another side, multimedia applications and documents on separate ways.
>> Now create some folders with appropriate names and move these shortcuts or icons in the folders accordingly.
>> Now create another folder, but this time you are going to move the previously created folders into it. Name it as well if wanted, something like apps or desktop.
>> Here is what you got now, a clean desktop, one folder that contains three or more folders.
>> This isn't over yet, one folder is still on desktop. Move this folder to someplace where you don't wanna see it again. Something like C:\Program Files.
>> Here comes the real trick. Right click anywhere on the taskbar and then select New toolbar. A dialog box will appear asking you to select the location. Point it to the folder that you have probably moved to the program files.
>> And its done. You can see a new toolbar in the Windows taskbar. Access any application you like from this menu.
>> Next time an icon is created on the desktop, simply drag it from the desktop and drop it in the appropriate folder in the toolbar.
This is how you can get more work space without any external software.
